WHO ARE THESE KOMPOST PEOPLE ANYWAY?

John F Quirk

John Quirk is an American animator who loves to experiment, learn and teach! After meeting Helen and completing his studies at The Estonian Academy of Arts, he took up residency in Scotland for some time to focus on site-specific, community-oriented, and sustainable art projects with Studio Kompost. Now back in the US, John has leapt back into experimenting, learning, teaching, and goofing around with animation.

Helen Woolston

Helen Woolston is from the Highlands of Scotland where she is now based. She studied MA Animation at the Estonian Academy of Arts in Tallinn, and spent several years working on animation, art and organic farming projects in Estonia, Spain and Portugal. She works with animation, printmaking, photography, drawing and writing, and is learning about ecology, natural restoration and combining that with creative expression. She likes growing vegetables, walking in the woods, getting muddy and meeting weird fungi.

And Friends

We collaborate with a whole host of talented beings based all over the place who have helped us in numerous ways to bring our projects to life. Click here to find links to some of their amazing work.

WHAT WE OFFER

We make commissions for animation projects, including story development, character and puppet design. If you would like an animation made for your organisation (and if your organisation champions sustainability, ecological and social justice and a fairer world for all) get in touch and we'll chat ideas!

We facilitate creative workshops which incorporate our ethos of linking together nature, community and creative expression.

We experiment and playfully create as a way to explore the role of artwork within the challenges of our present society and its relationship to the wider ecosystem. We carry out practice-based research to explore our ecological niche as creative storytelling human beings who share the world with a host of other beings.

Get in touch if you'd like to discuss any projects with us!
